Thank you to all who participated, volunteered, sponsored and cheered, prayed and celebrated the 2008 Angels Race in Virginia. We had a great (if not a bit chilly) day on April 13th and the full field of over 400 participants swam, biked, and ran in honorof angels in downtown Lynchburg. Jason Howard of Norfolk, VA took the overall win with a time of 1:04:59. The first place female was Samantha Bird of Arlington, VA with a time of 1:12:49. The JMU tri team took the college challenge honors. full results can be found at: http://www.setupevents.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=event_detail&eventID=911#results-text Of particular note was the tremendous showing by the Va Tech triathlon team, which came out in force in memory of the 32 shooting victims on campus last year. Major David Rozelle completed his second Angels Race, as he prepares for Ironman 70.3 in Orlando Florida next week to raise funds for operation rebound. |

The Angels Foundation recognizes that we can only become our best with the inspiration and strength of others - angels who see more in us than we see in ourselves. These angels often impact our lives in ways that are difficult to describe, and impossible to repay. The mission of the Angels Foundation is two-fold:
- Create opportunities for individuals to honor angels who have touched their lives
- Encourage people to be angels in the lives of others
The sport of triathlon, like life, is as much a competition with self as it is with other athletes. The Angels Race is an opportunity to challenge yourself to give it your best, and to honor those who inspired you to become who you are, and who you seek to be. Participants write the name of the angel they are honoring on their body during body marking, and carry the spirit of that person throughout the race.
Many are inspired to their best performance, some resolve grief or celebrate a lost angel while others recognize the significance of someone currently in their life. For everyone, it is more than just a race. Be an Angel, Honor an Angel, Give it a TRI! |
